Ashland High Alumni Scholarship Fund

In 2025, the Ashland High Alumni Scholarship Fund was established by the Alumni Association. Click here for scholarship program details

Several significant alumni contributions were made to get this fund off the ground. Our goal is to reach $50,000 while still providing annual scholarships in the range of $1,500 each. We are so close - click!

All alumni, as well as family and friends of alumni, are encouraged to donate. Any donation amount is welcome. All donations to the AHS Student Scholarship Fund qualify as 501(c)(3) tax-deductible charitable contributions. When paid directly from an IRA account to the Scholarship Fund, these contributions are automatically non-taxable.

Imagine the power if every Grizzly Alumni gave a little. Whether it’s $5 or $500, what matters most is participation. When alumni come together to give regularly, it adds up to scholarships that change lives.

Ashland High Alumni Scholarship Fund Your Questions Answered

The Ashland High Alumni Association has been awarding scholarships to AHS graduating seniors for many years.  The funding for these scholarships was provided by alumni attending the annual “Grizz Fest” and by individual class donations.  Scholarships in previous years were $1,500 each.

Why was the Ashland High Alumni Scholarship Program created?

This was done in order to provide stable funding as well as to provide more and larger scholarships. In May 2025, we awarded three scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each.  The initial fundraising goal was set at $50,000. From June to October 2025, $44,511 has been raised. Our intent is to increase the scholarship amount by $500 per year until we reach $3,500* for each scholarship given to deserving AHS students. We will continue to fundraise each year in order to replenish funds for annual scholarships and to grow the endowment. Our intent is to build a broad base of alumni donors covering decades of classes. *Amount recommended by the Oregon Community Foundation

Are Scholarship donations Tax Deductible?

Scholarship donations made to the Alumni Association qualify as charitable donations that are tax deductible (EIN #81-1650848).  These donations are used 100% for scholarships and scholarship-related expenses (e.g., 1% investment fees, scholarship brochures, accompanying postage costs, etc.).  All scholarship advisory committee members serve as volunteers.

Who was hired as the investment firm?

Harfst and Associates Inc from Ashland was hired to invest these funds and to advise the Board on their fiduciary responsibilities regarding the endowment.

What are the scholarship criteria?

  • AHS graduating senior*

  • 3.0 GPA minimum

  • Financial need (per FAFSA or ORSAA determination)

  • Other considerations:  School and community activities, first-generation college students, demonstration of commendable personal qualities (e.g., resilience in overcoming significant obstacles).

*Recipients of a GED earned through AHS are eligible for scholarships if their test scores on the GED are determined to be equivalent to a 3.0 GPA minimum

Scholarships are available for use at public or private nonprofit post-secondary institutions (universities, colleges, trade and vocational schools) in Oregon or elsewhere.
